The Forestry Compendium provides a knowledge platform directed at achieving the proper choice and treatment of woody species in plantation, agroforestry and natural forest systems. The Compendium is unique in its high-quality data content, user-friendliness, sophisticated software features, global scope and sustainability.
FEATURES:
l Instant access to a knowledge base of more than 600 tropical and subtropical tree and shrub species of importance to forestry and agroforestry. Many species of pantropical importance are included, as well as andcomprehensive coverage of species for the Asia-Pacific Region. is provided. The information content has been provided by chosen specialists and verified by internationally renowned experts. Extensive bibliographic references, with abstracts, are included.
For major species, comprehensive reviews are provided on:
importance of the species to forestry; taxonomy and nomenclature; botanical features; geographic distribution; environmental amplitude; silviculture and management; pests, diseases and protection; variation and breeding; uses and wood/non-wood products; and potential disadvantages.
For other species, data is are presented on importance, taxonomy, distribution, environmental amplitude, silviculture, pests and diseases, uses and products.
l An interactive advisory system to aid decision-making on choice of species for use in trials
l Bibliographic information, with abstracts, on an additional 200 important tropical species. In total, 25,000 bibliographic references with abstracts are included on 800 species chosen for their importance to tropical forestry worldwide. These references have been selected from TREECD, a unique source of worldwide forestry information, published by CABI Publishing with co-operation from the Oxford Forestry Institute Library, the global library of deposit of forest literature, and the UK Department for International Development.

A GLOBAL and SUSTAINABLE CONCEPT
Module 1 of the Forestry Compendium is a sustainable product derived from a long-term development programme. It forms part of an on-going project to develop a Global Forestry Compendium, which will provide detailed information on the major woody species of the world, both tropical and temperate.
An upgrade option will be available to pPurchasers of Module 1 who wish to upgrade to the Global ForestryCompendium in the year 2000. will be offered special terms to do so.
