CHINESE TREE SPECIES INFORMATION SOUGHT - Sunny Yang writes,
"I am trying to reach foresters, researchers and references sources for
wood species and materials in China. I have been very confused about the
information from some of our Chinese suppliers. It is difficult sometimes
to understand the conditions. For example, we are told that the wood
is "Chestnut" or "Chestnut Oak" or "Marron Oak", but no one can give me
a scientific name or further details about the wood. I have information
about American Chestnuts and European Chestnuts, but I do not know how
to compare the Chinese version. I have the same problem with Birch.
We are buying from the North and the South. But it is very different,
and some of the people in the south call it "Alder Birch" or "Alder" or
"Cherry Birch" or "Red Birch." I am trying to understand if this
is the same wood or different, but I cannot get enough information to compare
data. I am also trying to locate information on Keyaki, Ash, Oak, Birch
(all of the above--"Alder Birch", "Southern Birch", "Northern White Birch"),
Maple, Red Pine, White Pine and several other woods. It is very difficult
to find sufficient and accurate information. I need, for example,
the Differential Change Coefficient for the hardwoods listed above to help
us install flooring properly. Most of our Chinese suppliers do not
understand what a Differential Change Coefficient is. I would also like
to get pictures of trees for these species. I need a variety of images
for promotional purposes. (English information on the type of images
can be found at http://www.maruhon.com/studio.html)
Finally, information on resource conditions is useful. We wish to
make sure the products are of sustainable supply. I would appreciate any
connections you can offer. Communication and data can be in English,
Chinese, or Japanese." You may reach Sunny at sunny@MARUHON.ORG . URL:
