ACACIA SALIGNA INFORMATION WANTED - Emilio Garcia writes, " I am continuing with my research on Acacia saligna, I'm following the stages of that shrub after the pruning. Can you share with me any information - in particular or parameters that I need to consider in measuring regrowth? I am looking for some references or people who are working in that physiological stage, or any recommendation that you have it about, the measurements that I need to do it etc. In summary, I am looking for any data on and methods for measuring growth of Acacia saligna after pruning." If you can help, please contact Emilio at Runoff Agriculture Department, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. SEDE BOKER CAMPUS 84990, ISRAEL. Email: egarcia@bgumail.bgu.ac.il
WHAT'S SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT? Vivek K.Varma writes, "I am trying to collect as many definitions of sustainable forest management as possible. Realising that no universally acceptable definition is available (the latest addition being by ITTO), I thought it might be interesting to see how different people have sought to define it. Please send me details of the sources you consider worth exploring. I will compile my results and communicate to those interested." You may contact Vivek at School of Forestry, University of Melbourne, Parkville, Vic. 3052, Australia. Phone: +61 3 9344 5238 (Work); FAX: +61 3 9349 4172. Email: v.varma@landfood.unimelb.edu.au.
MISSOURI LUND AND "THE QUEST FOR THE LAST FOREST" - Help! I am still searching for national definitions of forest, forest land, tree, afforestation, reforestation and deforestation as they are used in national laws, inventories or assessments for the following countries: Albania, Algeria, American Samoa, Andorra, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo Dem. Rep. of, Cook Islands, Côte d'Ivoire, Dem. People's Republic of Korea, Djibouti, Dominica, Dominican Rep., Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Greenland, Grenada, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Korea, Rep. of, Kuwait, Lao P.D.R., Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Madagascar, Maldives, Mali, Malta, Marshall Is., Mauritania, Moldova Rep of, Monaco, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, New Caledonia, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Niue, Oman, Palau, Palestine, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Republic of Srpska , Rwanda, Samoa, San Marino, Sao Tome and Principe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Is, Sri Lanka, St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Swaziland, Syrian Arab Republic, Togo, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Yugoslavia, and Zambia. Surely, national definitions must exist for many of these countries. I don't know how one could develop forest management policies without defining what is the land and resource to which the policies will apply. I know the list looks long, but I have gathered definitions for 92 other countries - see http://home.att.net/~gklund/DEFpaper.html. If you can provide any of the definitions, please contact me directly. If you cannot, please pass this request on to those whom may be able to help. Thanks, Gyde (gklund@worldnet.att.net).
