The Council will guide the development of the GAOF by making recommendations, promote the GAOF and help with sourcing future funding. This may sound bureaucratic but if the GAOF is to be able to promote the forest industry and help our colleagues find jobs we need active contacts with a wide range of interests. In addition to date the GAOF has been based in Scotland and needs a truly global representation.
The members of Council (Councillors) will have a number of roles:
Council will consist of 2 members of the GAOF representing each of the 6 continents and a Chairman. In the future once the GAOF has a larger membership the council members may wish to form subcommittees for each continent with representatives from participating countries.
A vote of Councillors was held from Monday 25th January 1999 (8 am GMT ) until Sunday 31st January 1999 (8pm GMT). Only Members of the GAOF were allowed to vote.
The following were elected as Councillors for the GAOF.

I have been in forestry activities in the country. He owns a small plantation there which is managed by his bother -in-law and can be used as a demonstration plot for local people. Joshua says "The natives there grow coffee as a cash crop. Tree growing as a cash crop has not been the way to go." Joshua also believes we need to find a way to to communicate and work with the many NGOs working in African countries in reforestation programs. There are local foresters in most of these African countries but they are poorly paid and very unmotivated. |
